S’East youths charge DSS to produce murderous herdsmen at Enugu community

S’East youths who alleged that four persons were killed during the attack on Nimbo community in Enugu State, said at least 10 others were still missing, while six sustained various degrees of injuries.

They also charged South East governors to enforce the ban on open grazing of cattle in the region, as enunciated by Southern governors in their meeting in Asaba, Delta State, about two months ago.

In a statement signed by the President-General, and Secretary-General of Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, Goodluck Ibem, and Comrade Kanice Igwe, the youths called on Nimbo, and other South-East youths to mobilize themselves and guard their communities against any form of invasion by herdsmen.

While calling on the international community to come to the aid of Christians and southern Nigerians who they claimed had been allegedly marked for extermination, the group called on Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State to form a strong security outfit to guard border communities against intrusion by herders.

The statement read: “The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, the apex socio-political youth organisation in the South-East geo-political zone, condemns in strongest terms the attack by murderous herdsmen/terrorists that led to the death of four persons and missing of 10 at Opanda in Nimbo community, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu state.

“This is the second time in 2021 that murderous terrorists parading as herdsmen are attacking this very community for not allowing the murderous terrorists to feed their cattle in their farm settlements.

“The Department of State Services, DSS that is very good in attacking the homes of activists and killing their supporters should move into action and arrest those killer herders and bring them to court to face charges for murder and other offences committed against humanity.

“The law, they say is not a respecter of persons. Is the law now respecting murde-rous herders terrorists that up till this moment, we are yet to hear of the arrest of those killers?

‘’The DSS that has the capacity to go all the way to Kenya and abduct Nnamdi Kanu, and who moved from Abuja to Ibadan to attack the home of Sunday Adeyemi (aka Sunday Igboho) should also move immediately to apprehend the murderous herdsmen that killed the people of Nimbo community on Monday, July 26, 2021, by 2 am.

“We call on the good people of Nimbo community and other communities in the South East geopolitical zone to immediately mobilise their youths and guard their communities to avoid a repeat of what just happened at Nimbo community.

“The governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, should immediately form a strong and active indigenous security outfit to guard border towns of Enugu State to avert another invasion of the state.

“The governors of Southern Nigeria should stamp their feet on the ground and enforce the ban on open grazing, otherwise nobody will take them seriously in the future.

“What happened at Nimbo community happened because the leader of Miyetti Allah openly instructed his members to disregard the resolution of Southern state governors banning open grazing.

‘’The killer herdsmen/terrorists should be arrested for the killings at Nimbo community in Enugu State. This brazen madness of killing innocent Nigerians for refusing cattle owned by herdsmen to feed on farmers’ crops must stop forthwith.

We, therefore, call on the international community to come to the aid of Christians and Southern Nigerians who have been marked for extermination without the federal government doing anything to stop the massacre of innocent farmers and Christians.”

Ohanaeze youths express worry, ask military to fish out perpetrators.

Also reacting to the killings at Nimbo yesterday, Ohanaeze Youth Council, OYC, in a statement by its President-General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike and the Secretary-General, Comrade Obinna Achuonye, stated that the attack was unacceptable.

The Igbo group also stated it was now time for the military to prove its mettle and arrest the perpetrators.

The statement read: “We woke up yet again to another orgy of killings by marauding herdsmen. This is not the first time Uzo-Uwani is experiencing this kind of carnage, as we have not forgotten in a hurry how Nimbo in the area came under a similar deadly attack, leaving scores dead.

“Now, we have a repeat of such gruesome and dastardly killings. We are in deep pain, we are in agony over this heartbreaking report.

“This is the kind of situation that necessitated IPOB’s formation of Eastern Security Network, ESN, as they watched helplessly over the years and our people were being slaughtered.’’

While knocking security agencies for doing little in the face of the mindless killings by suspected killer herdsmen, the youth group said: “It is quite regrettable that Nigeria security agencies display weakness anytime herdsmen are involved in crime but they become pythons when it comes to the ESN.

“We saw just a few days ago how the Army announced that they have smashed the camp of ESN in Amagunze, Enugu State, but the same military is unable to enter the bushes and capture herdsmen who are sending our people to their graves and raping our women.”

Nemesis Is Coming On Those Attacking Me, Benue People – Gov Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has expressed optimism that those attacking him for voicing out the criminal activities of suspected Fulani herdsmen would one day face the nemesis of their actions.

In an interview with DAILY POST, the governor expressed hope that the Supreme God would vindicate him following the attacks he had suffered while defending his people, stressing that the day of reckoning is coming.

The Governor accused some political actors in the state of sabotaging the interest of the people just to remain as Minister or gain the position of a party’s national chairman.

He said, “I will say it’s well. God will help us. All these things they are doing; the day of reckoning is coming. I can assure you. All these injustices; all the things that I have suffered on behalf of my people; the day of reckoning will come for all these blackmailers who have come out now to cause confusion in Benue State.

“The same people had benefited immensely from our people who voted them, but they are now turning our state into IDPs camps.

“God will judge us. And because they want to be National Chairman, they want to remain as Ministers, they do press conferences, they insult the people and walk on their graves and across their dead bodies. The day of reckoning is coming. Watch my words! I serve the living God”.

Tambuwal’s Special Adviser’s Son, Two Others Sent To Jail Over Nude Video

Aminu Hayatau Tafida, a son of the Special Adviser on Social Investments to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, and two others have been sentenced to four years and six-month imprisonment.

Those sentenced alongside Aminu are Umar Abubakar and Masaud Abubakar Gidado.

The trio were handed an option of N400,000 fine each, including compensation for alleged circulation of an 18-second nude video, in a case that has suffered several adjournments.

Delivering judgement on Tuesday, Chief Magistrate Shu’aibu Ahmad of the Magistrate Court sitting in Sokoto, said the prosecuting counsel had proved his case beyond any reasonable doubts and as such, the three accused persons were convicted for the very offenses put forward before them.

While citing Section 209 ACJN of Sokoto 2019, Shu’aibu, however, gave opportunity to counsels to the defendants to make any other submission before reading his sentences.

On the strength of that, counsels to all the defendants separately but unanimously said they did not intend to call any other witness. They, however, pleaded that justice should be tempered with mercy on grounds that all the defendants were youths who had the future before them and first-time offenders; hence the need to consider option of fine as well.

“We are appealing to this honorable court to show leniency in its sentence, more so that they have all shown remorsefulness over their actions. We are, therefore, appealing that other options should also be considered as sentencing convicts is no longer a fashion this time around.

“If in case this court so wish to sentence them, the court should be liberal taking into cognisance the economic hardship being faced this time around, we so appeal,” they stated.

In his sentence, the presiding magistrate, Shuaibu Ahmad, said he had taken into consideration the fact that the defendants were first-time offenders, and that he will therefore be lenient but give maximum sentence.

Shu’aibu said, for the offences of indecent act which goes contrary to Section 171 of Sokoto State Penal Code, the defendants are sentenced to pay a fine of N200,000 each ,whose default will lead to two-year imprisonment.

He said for the offence of sharing and sale of obscene book, the defendants are sentenced to pay 50,000 each, for whose default will lead to two- year imprisonment.

Shu’aibu further said that, for the offence of abatement, Section 48 of the Sokoto Penal Code provides N50,000 naira or conviction for six months in the case of default.

Shu’aibu also said that each of the defendants is to pay N100,000 compensation to the complainant.

Reacting to the development, both the prosecutor, ASP Simon Sule; and the complainant said they were satisfied with the judgment, and, according to them, the pronouncements will serve as deterrence to others.

FG not interested in naming sponsors of terrorism – Adesina

The presidency would rather let the EFCC and other related agencies investigate these allegations and drag suspected terror funders before courts.

The President Muhammadu Buhari administration is not keen on naming and shaming rich and powerful individuals who fund terrorism in Nigeria, according to the president’s spokesperson Femi Adesina.

“Naming and shaming would not be the motive, rather bringing malefactors to justice would be it,” Adesina said on a ChannelsTV programme.

There have been widespread insinuations and allegations that some of the moneybags who sponsor terrorism in Nigeria are serving in government.

“The United Arab Emirates has brought some names and the Attorney General of the Federation has responded to that matter, saying that in due course, all these people would have their days in court.

“Rest assured that these people (terror financiers) would be tried before justice and justice would have its way,” the presidential aide added.

Nigeria has been battling Boko Haram terrorism since 2009. In recent times, bandits and kidnappers have also become a recurring nightmare for the country’s northern region.
