Onitsha Nollywood actors mark 17th anniversary, cryout as social media renders members jobless

The Onitsha zone, Anambra state, Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, weekend celebrated its 17th anniversary at Royal Paradise hotel, Obosi, near Onitsha, in Grand style even as it cried out that the increase in the social media platform has rendered most of their members jobless.

In her welcome address at the occsion, the Onitsha zone coordinator, Mrs Chinyelu Easter Anyaegbunam, while expressing satisfaction with the large turnout of guests and members, frowned at the increase of social media platform adding that, “due to the social media usage, our members, our members are left without jobs because many unprofessionals have taken over the industry”.

“We passionately plead with the state government and public spirited individuals to please help us with sufficient funds to enable us produce our zonal films”

“It is our desire to create jobs for our members by Producing films in the zone and also to organize trainings, workshops and seminars in various departments.

The sum of #10million will salvage the situation. We need vehicles for proper coordination of the activities of the zone.and to help us check mate the excesses of unprofessional film makers in the state”.

She hinted that the zone has no Permanent office as it moved from place to place for office which prompted it to pay #.4million yearly and urged for assistance.

She paid glowing tribute to the traditional ruler of Obosi, HRH, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, who she hinted contributed immensely to the success of the anniversary and rapid growth of actors in the zone.

Earlier in his speech, the chairman of the occasion, a veteran and popular actor, Chief Amaechi Muonagu, stressed the need for assistance to the zone adding that it has been able to produce actors who today have made Nollywood to dare Hollywood .

He urged the government to see Nollywood actors as big employers of labour who use their ingenuity to create wealth four the people.

In his post award speech, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO/proprietor of the hotel, venue of the event, Prince Okechukwu Obiagwuna, thanked them for honouring him and gave them an office to stay pending when they will have their permanent Secretariat.

The CEO who has uplifted scores of indigenous people vowed to continue to assist the zone and donated #one million to them.

Also a former coordinator for eight years in the zone and now the state treasurer, who was also honored, Chief Christopher Ezeolisa, commended members for the anniversary especially Mrs. Anyaegbunam, for her relentless efforts towards the upliftment of the Onitsha zone.

Others honored were, Bishop
Onyeka Nzekwesi of the Jesus Alive Ministry who pledged to assist the zone when ever called upon to do so and Chief Omezie Okeke who was represented by Charles Edeh.

Nigerian actor and social media commentator, Uche Maduagwu on Saturday, dramatically demanded justice for late student of Dowen College, Sylvester Oromoni jnr.

The controversial critic stormed a market place and created a scene as he warned the management of Dowen College that he would pay them a visit.

The death of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, has sparked agitations from Nigerian celebrities, as they demand justice for the child.
A Twitter user @perrisonoromoni, who claimed to be the boy’s cousin, said that Oromoni was beaten by fellow students for refusing to join cult.

However, in a statement on Wednesday, the school denied all allegations stating that Oromoni was neither bullied nor beaten but only complained of hip pain after playing football.

In a video making rounds online, Maduagwu had bra’s strapped all around his body and in his a hand as he jumped around saying; ”Justice for Sylvester, Dowen College I am coming with my bra”

Nigerian gay rights activist, Bisi Alimi took to his Instastoies to share his thoughts on the Nigerian music industry.

According to him, 80% of Nigerian music are noisy, meaningless, and toxic. The gay rights activist inferred that the quality of music is why Nigerians are ”noisy, meaningless and toxic.”

According to him, the remaining 20% of meaningful music do not interest Nigerians because they are not “emotionally intelligent to appreciate good music.”

LIONEL MESSI’S week may be going from boom to doom after his £26m hotel was reportedly ordered to be demolished.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Argentine legend was celebrating on Monday when he lifted the Ballon d’Or for an incredible seventh time.

Now the £650,000-a-week striker could be set to take a hit as the 77-bedroom hotel he owns was found not to meet city standards.

Messi’s four-star ‘MiM Sitges’ is located not far from the private estate he lived on during his days in Barcelona and was one of his favourite places to visit.

According to El Confidencial, a court order for the demolition of the property is currently pending.

And they even approached Messi’s camp for comment, but neither he nor his team decided to speak on the matter.

Messi, who owns hotels in Ibiza and Majorca with the Majestic Hotel Group, spent £26m on the Hotel MiM Sitges, which sits just over 100 feet from the sea, back in 2017.

However, the fresh report states that he did so without knowing that Sitges Town Hall had already ordered its demolition due to its non-compliance with building codes.
