We will Make Sure IPOB Is Recognized As A Terrorist Group Worldwide – FG

The Presidency, on Sunday, said that the present administration under President Muhammadu Buhari is redoubling efforts to have the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) designated as a terrorist group.

Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, said this in a release while responding to an article in an international magazine, The Economist.

This came when bandits attacking military formations in the North West and North Central were yet to be proscribed and designated as terrorists despite stringent calls for the federal government to do so.

Recall that the United States of America had recently warned that the use of Tucano fighter planes be limited on terrorists in the country, meaning that the air assets would be restricted to be used on Boko Haram insurgents and ISWAP fighters.

Designating IPOB as a terrorist group would then mean that the Tucano planes could be deployed to the South-Eastern part of the country.

The statement partly read, “It is only the Buhari administration that has now sought to intervene against the kidnapping and banditry that has been a simmering threat for far longer. It is only this President’s government which has taken on IPOB, the violent terrorist group which bombs police stations and offices of security agencies, while also threatening those who break their Monday-sit-ins whilst claiming the mantle of forebears who half a century ago fought a civil war. And it is only the Buhari leadership which has sought – ever, in over one 100 years – to identify the root causes of the herder-farmer clashes and find durable solutions.

“In the South East, IPOB – which the Economist rightly describes as ‘delusional’ – the arrest and present trial of the terrorist leader of the group is the beginning of its demise. The President’s administration is redoubling efforts to have IPOB rightfully designated as a terrorist group by our allies outside of Nigeria – an act which will collapse their ability to transact gains from crime and extortion in foreign currencies. It is important to remind the Economist and the global media that this group’s aggression and widespread presence on social media does not reflect their public support, for which they have none: all elected governors, all elected politicians and all elected state assemblies in the South-East – which IPOB claim to be part of their fantasy kingdom – reject them completely.”

Nnamdi Kanu Sets To Be Bailed As Court Schedules For Emergency Hearing Tomorrow

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu is scheduled for an emergency hearing tomorrow (Thursday) that could lead to his release on bail.

According to Sahara Reporter, it was learnt on Wednesday that the hearing could open the door for Kanu’s release on bail.

This was confirmed to SaharaReporters by the counsel for the Nigerian government in the matter.

It was also learnt from Nigerian government lawyers that the move is in response to the fervent appeals by Igbo leaders for the release of the pro-Biafra agitator.

“Nnamdi Kanu scheduled for an emergency hearing tomorrow that could lead to his release on bail.

“This is in response to Igbo elders’ request for his release,” one of the sources said on Wednesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari had said on Friday, November 19 that he would consider the unconditional release of the IPOB leader as sought by elder statesmen from the South-East.

Buhari had, however, added that such a request was a difficult option to weigh but assured that he would give it a thought.

Buhari said this while receiving a group under the aegis of Highly Respected Igbo Greats, led by First Republic parliamentarian and Minister of Aviation, Mbazulike Amaechi, at State House, Abuja, earlier in November.

IPOB holds prayer session for release of Nnamdi Kanu, orders optional sit-at-home

A pro-Biafra secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has called on its members, supporters and residents of the South-East region to have a prayer session on Tuesday (today) for the unconditional release of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The group urged that business and social activities should be shunned so that people could concentrate on the prayers for its helmsman who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June.

According to the statement signed by the Head of Directorate of Service (DOS), Chika Edoziem, the prayer should also address peace in the Igbo land and as well for the realisation of the Biafra nation.

This was contained in the statement by the media and publicity secretary of the group, Emma Powerful on Monday.

The statement said, “On this very day, we will make one solemn sacrifice. I am not instituting sit-at-home but all Biafrans should dedicate that day by shutting down all business activities, banks should not open.”

Explaining further on the modalities of the prayer session, Powerful told SaharaReporters that, “We didn’t declare anything like sit-at-home, our declaration is on prayers for our leader.”

The statement further read, “The prayers will be all over the world where all Biafrans reside.

“There is no sit-at-home because we understand that DSS agents masquerading as our members are now telling people that IPOB will use that day as sit-at-home, no we did not say so and will not, but our people will close their shops after the prayers they open their shops.
