It Has Been “No Sex No Role” All The Way In Nollywood – Charity Nnaji

Actress, Charity Nnaji, attracted some flak when she took to social media during the week to state that “being a female celebrity is more like advanced prostitution”. Many felt her comment was uncharitable to hardworking women in the entertainment industry.

However, in an interview with Saturday Beats, Nnaji stood by her words, stating, “It is the order of the day in Nollywood and they (filmmakers) have even upgraded. Sometimes, they would promise one a role, have s£x with one, collect one’s money, then give one the script of a movie that has already been shot. It is that bad in Nollywood. Young girls who are desperate to be famous are usually taken advantage of.”

The actress also stated that her controversial Instagram post was triggered by her findings on the scandal between another actress, Tonto Dikeh, and her ex-lover, Prince Kpokpogiri.

She said, “What actually triggered the post was the voice note I listened to on my colleague, Tonto Dike’s Instagram page. The person she was having the conversation with, Merit, is a close friend and I called the person to find out what led to the voice note. I found out that almost all the girls mentioned in the voice note had slept with Prince Kpokpogri. Yet, those are the same people that pretend a lot. They claim to be building careers but are actually into ‘runs’ (prostitution) behind closed doors. After listening to that voice note and getting more information from Merit, it dawned on me that this (being an actress) is more like advanced prostitution.”

Though many have dismissed her comments, saying she only made such statements to gain online popularity, Nnaji made it clear that was not the first time she would make such a controversial statement, and that it sometimes affected her getting roles in movies.

She said, “When people say I’m chasing clout by making statements like these, does that mean because I am an actress I can’t have my own opinions or air my views? Things don’t work that way. That is why many people die in silence.

“They (people in the movie industry) have never liked me because I say it the way it is. I am not a clout chaser and I did not make that statement because I want to gain popularity. I only commented on a trending issue. I don’t talk just because I want to open my mouth. I try to find out about issues before summarising them on my page.”

Fani-Kayode’s estranged wife ‘Snow White’ sues ex-husband, IGP for N800m

Precious Chikwendu, a.k.a Snow White, estranged wife of ex-minister Femi Fani-Kayode, has filed a suit at a Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking the enforcement of her fundamental human rights.

The plaintiff in the suit filed against Fani-Kayode, Inspector-General of Police, his officers and men (joined as defendants), is claiming the sum of N800m as damages.

Other respondents were the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force CID, Commissioner of Police, FCT, CSP James Idachaba (OC Legal CID), FCT Command.

The plaintiff said she was demanding the said amount because of the roles of the respondents in intimidating and harassing her during the pendency of her custody suit.

Specifically, Chikwendu, in the suit filed by her lawyer, Abdul-Aziz Jimoh, asked the court to restrain the IGP, his officers and men from intimidating and harassing her in any form, pending the hearing and determination of her suit seeking the custody of the four children she had with Fani-Kayode.

The applicant is also asking an order enforcing her fundamental human rights as she was apprehensive of an imminent violation of such rights in actualisation of alleged threats to her life by Fani-Kayode and in the face of the nonchalant and refusal of the first, second and third respondents (IGP, DIG Force CID and CP FCT) to investigate her genuine petitions of threat to life against the fifth respondent (Fani-Kayode).

Chikwendu sought for a declaration that she was not bound to honor the invitation of the first to fourth respondents in relation to a purported conspiracy and forgery of court records during the pendency of suit no CV/372/2021 between her and the fifth respondent.

“The fifth respondent and I have four children together and I am forcefully separated from our children, who are all minors.

“Consequent upon the unbridled violence perpetrated against me by the fifth respondent and the forceful separation from our children, I filed a suit in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with Suit No CV/372/2021.

“Rather than allow the contending matters placed before the FCT High Court to be determined by the honorable court, the fifth respondent has persisted in using the Police officers under the control of the first respondent (IGP) and supervised by the second respondent (Commissioner of Police FCT) incessantly to intimidate and harass me with a view to interfering in the adjudicatory powers of a competent court of justice.”

Chikwendu said she had also petitioned the Commissioner of Police, FCT, the third respondent, alleging threats to her life by the fifth respondent and that the Police Commissioner had refused to act on her petition, thus prompting her to go to court to enforce her fundamental human rights.

No date has been fixed for mentioning of the matter.
