CAN Suspends Sunday Congo For Congratulating Pantami

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN has suspended its Gombe State Caretaker Chairman, Rev. Sunday Congo.

Congo was suspended after he wrote a congratulatory letter to the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, without the approval of the association’s National Executive Committee.

CAN State Secretary in Gombe, Apostle John Adedigba, in a letter on behalf of all the members of the caretaker committee congratulated Pantami on his recent reported “promotion to the rank of a Professor of Cyber Security” by the Governing Council of Federal University of Technology, Owerri.

They stated in the letter that they were “proud” of Pantami as a “son”.

However, CAN in a letter by its General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, dated September 15 2021, titled: ‘Letter of Suspension’, sent to CAN caretaker committee chairman in Gombe, stated that the congratulatory letter was issued without the consent of the mother body.

Part of the letter read, “Following the recent publications of your congratulatory message to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, CAN writes to inform you that your action has generated a lot of concerns amongst members of the Christian Association of Nigeria.

CAN described the letter without its executive’s permission as provocative, adding that he does not represent their position.

“It is not only provocative but undermines the CAN NEC executive. It does not in any way represent their position.

“In view of this, you are hereby directed to relinquish your position in Gombe CAN executive with immediate effect and hand over all CAN’s property to your next in line in your bloc.”

CAN further advised that the body be consulted in future and an approval obtained from the authority of CAN national level in order for everyone to speak with one voice.

Focus On Missionary Work, Stop Abusing Gods Grace – Primate Ayodele Rebukes Bakare

The Leader Of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, on Saturday rebuked Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Citadel Global Community Church over his comment on running for president in 2023.

Primate Ayodele, who frowned at the remark, said Pastor Bakare should face his missionary work and stop mismanaging the grace of God upon his life.

Bakare had said that he will contest for the position if God and Nigerians ask him to.

Speaking at the State House after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, Bakare described himself as a nation builder.

However, Ayodele noted that Bakare cannot win an election in his church not to talk of winning an election in Nigeria.

In a statement by his media aide, Oluwatosin Osho, the clergyman advised him to spend his money on the less privileged in his church rather than waste it on something that has no reward from God.

‘’Tunde Bakare is mismanaging the grace of God upon his life and ministry. The dream of becoming Nigeria’s president is not realistic for him, he can’t even win an election in his church not to talk of Nigeria.

‘’If he has money, he should use it to help the less privileged in his church instead of going about to waste his time for nothing.

‘’Tunde Bakare should relax, forget the dream of becoming Nigeria’s president and face his missionary work that God sent him to do. He should preach the gospel, win more souls for Christ.,” he said.

Bakare had in July launched a movement he called ‘Nigeria For Nigeria’. This was a movement he described as a means to take back Nigeria from the hands of those in power.

But, Primate Ayodele had described the movement as a means to put Nigerians in bondage and that it is another agenda for Tunde Bakare’s political ambition.
