The Nigerian Bar Association ( NBA ) , Maiduguri Branch, has urged the Nigerian Military to ensure quick response when ever alert of Boko Haram movement in any area is provided by the locals.
NBA noted that on several occasions, the military has neglected information shared to them of Boko Haram movement in some areas only to respond after the terrorists might have attacked and lives and property destroyed.
The Chairman NBA Maiduguri Branch, Mr. Muhammadu Umoru said this at the Bar Centre in Maiduguri while reacting over the last Sunday’s Auno attack that claimed about 30 lives and property destroyed .
Umoru called on traditional rulers, community leaders and the general populace in Borno to cooperate with the military through intelligence sharing of any strange movement in their environment to end the lingering terrorism devastating the state .
He said members of the Bar in Borno state were devastated and shocked on how those innocent lives were brutally murdered in such that many were burnt in addition to properties worth millions of naira.
The NBA Chairman said:” This recent Auno attack has once again brought to fore the traumatic experience of our people plying Maiduguri- Damaturu-Maiduguri highway .
” This attack would have been averted if not for the military’s strategy of closing the road by 5pm.
” The NBA Maiduguri Branch is calling on the Leadership of the Military to review its strategy of shortening off the Maiduguri- Damaturu highway in the name of security cover , because it is doing more harm than good to our people .
” The Bar recognises and acknowledges the sacrifices of the Military who at times ultimately pay the supreme price in other to defend our father land.
” We equally call on the federal government to review its security architecture with a view to ending the insurgency in the Northeast and country at large,” Umoru further said.
