2023: The time to contest has not come, you won’t win – Saraki tells youths

Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, a former President of the Nigerian Senate, has told youths nursing the ambition to run in the 2023 presidential election to shelve the idea.

Saraki said it was already too late for such persons to stand any chance of winning an election in this country, adding that the system is too rigid.

The former Senate President said he would not even want any youth with a sound mind to contest for political offices at this point because they still possess some good values which would be corrupted before they win any election.

“You have to give up some good values that you have to be able to be competitive,” the former Kwara State Governor said at the weekend during an Independence lunch with diverse Nigerian youths in Abuja.

“It is too late to win election. I will be very honest with you. The System is too rigid against you. You are a young guy, you don’t have money or network where are you going to start from?

“I don’t even want you to [contest] because you still have some good values. I don’t want you to be corrupted because for you to win you have to give up some good values that you have to be able to be competitive.

“We don’t want that because it means your generation will be as bad as ours. Let’s keep you where you are for now for those who are not yet corrupted.

“Where I believe you can make a difference which no one can stop you is your a rights to vote. That’s the only role you can play now in reality.

“We should be asking if that is guaranteed. That is what we have been advocating for in the electoral bill and it has worked.

“I think what needs to be done now is that we must participate. Let me explain further, on the day of election, if you look at the line of people that go out to vote… if the people coming out to vote are people we can give 100 naira, the election will not stand. This means we can manipulate. But if the 500 people lining up are people like you election will hold.

“If we say we won’t come out because nothing will change …if we take that attitude, then they will win. Look at all over the world where there is big change, people that made the change are people like you. If you are not registered to vote, nothing will change. It will be who we want to be Governor, Senator that will be.

“If you make up majority of the electorate even if they try to change the result, I know you will not agree because you know your right and the world will stand with you.

“I think the target now should be how to mobilize similar mind to hold their voters card and vote. If that is the kind of voters, then the result will hold. I promise, if those are not the kind of voters, then everyone will try to manipulate the result.

“Until those of you that matter take it upon yourself and ask what kind of Governor, president, Senator you want, nothing can change.

“When you get the right kind of Governor and he knows you have the power to vote him out, you will have the chance to come into government because you would have built a pact.

“The point now is, politician don’t believe you can vote them out. If they believe you can vote them out, they will do the right things.

“Their own view is 9 months to election they will share the money and win election. If they know the vote is not about sharing money they will perform well.

“End SARS did not fail, it showed that the youth can participate and the best form of participation is through voting.

“I think the world is tired of the problem and dangers Nigeria could create. There are six million Nigerians that have the right to be in the UK.

“If Afghanistan was a problem then Nigeria is a bigger problem for the UK. Even for self interest, it is in the best interest for UK to work because of the exodus that will go into those places if it doesn’t.

“The world is with us but we must put in place good governance and the right kind of voters that can do that are people like yourself. Not those who want N5000. If the guy that wants N5000 is more than you, then Nigeria is not going to change and we won’t have the right kind of leaders.”

APC Inaugurates Appeal Committees For State Congresses

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated the appeal committees to address the concerns raised by aggrieved members following its recently concluded state congresses.

The committees were inaugurated on Thursday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

National Secretary of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), John Akpanudoedehe, inaugurated the committees on behalf of the party’s leadership.

He explained that this formed part of the internal mechanisms of the party to ensure dissatisfied members could approach the committees to get their grievances resolved.

Akpanudoedehe promised that the APC would ensure its channels of communication were kept open as dictated, in line with the constitution of the party.

According to him, it is important for members to stay united in order to win the forthcoming elections in Anambra, Ekiti, and the general elections in 2023.

REMARKS BY THE NATIONAL SECRETARY OF THE APC CARETAKER/EXTRAORDINARY CONVENTION PLANNING COMMITTEE (CECPC), SEN. JOHN JAMES AKPANUDOEDEHE PH.D DURING THE INAUGURATION OF THE PARTYS STATE CONGRESS APPEAL COMMITTEES ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2021 AT THE APC NATIONAL SECRETARIAT IN ABUJA.

Once again, may I, on behalf of the National Chairman of the CECPC H.E (Hon) Mai Mala Buni, welcome you all to the National Secretariat of our great Party and to this very important event which is the inauguration of the States Congress Appeals Committee.

You all will agree with me that the process of recalibrating our party into a functional winning machine in 2023, is well on course.

With the huge membership strength we have recorded during the last registration and revalidation exercise, there is no doubt that Nigerians still trust us and that we will win all the upcoming elections convincingly, starting from the Governorship elections in Anambra, to Osun, Ekiti and to the 2023 general elections.

Nigerians by now have realized that the APC led-government of President Buhari means well for Nigerians and is doing everything possible to deliver infrastructure to Nigerians amidst difficult economic times, globally. We must stay united so we can defeat the agents of destruction who have vowed to set Nigeria backwards. Just this morning, an Abuja-Kaduna passenger train was attacked by criminals, depriving Nigerians the services it provides. This is so despicable, but together we shall overcome them.

Therefore, there is greater need to sustain the trust of our party men and women and indeed all Nigerians.

In a bid to provide development to our people, this party has afforded many of our party faithfuls, the platform to attain various positions, either elected or appointed, it will still do so for many others going forward. Hence, all true party men and women must see dissensions within the party as family disputes and should not seek to destroy the platform which helped them in times past.

As a party, we shall ensure that channels of communication are kept open, as in the instant case and as dictated by the constitution of our party. This Appeals Committee is part of the internal mechanisms so that those who may feel dissatisfied with the States Congresses can approach the Committee and ventilate their grievances through this avenue.

It is elementary law that he who alleges must prove, so instead of taking issues to the media space, let them put forward their case before this Appeals Committee.

I urge you all to ensure that fair hearing and justice be your guiding principles in the task entrusted to you.

You all were carefully selected based on your proven track record of integrity and capacity to deliver. The party trusts in your ability to bring to bear on this task, your incredible credentials.

2023: Makinde says Atiku, Tambuwal have shown interest in contesting

Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, says former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto, have indicated interest in contesting in the 2023 presidential election.

Over the past weeks, there have been speculations on who will become president in 2023, especially with the issues raised by politicians on zoning.

Speaking on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television, Makinde said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has “eminently qualified” personalities that can lead the country successfully.

The governor said the only way of stopping the PDP in 2023 is by dividing the party, adding that the governors elected on the platform of the party understand the need for unity ahead of next general election.

“I make bold to say that the situation in this country today, the only way that you can stop PDP at the federal level is by dividing PDP internally,” the Oyo governor said.

2023: Makinde says Atiku, Tambuwal have shown interest in contesting

“All the governors of the PDP are well aware of this fact and we made unity within ourselves our number one priority. Once the governors of PDP are able to move in one direction, align on most of the issues and the challenges we are faced with, I think there is hope for this country.

“The issue right now is that our party — PDP — has eminently qualified personalities that can lead this country successfully. Some have indicated interest like former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, like governor Tambuwal, like governor Bala Mohammed.

“They have indicated interest. But the bottom line is when we get to that bridge, we will definitely cross it. What is important at this stage, which I will solicit the support of PDP members and the generality of Nigerians, is please support us to have a successful national convention

“There is no way you can become anything — president, vice-president, even governor — if we don’t have a party. What we want to do first is ensure that we get things right within our party.”

Asked if he thinks the PDP will take over power from the APC in 2023, he said: “Well, it is a question that I know Nigerians will answer and they will answer decisively.”
