Opposition Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday, moved to settle the differences between former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose; and Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, within 24 hours.
This was contained in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan.
Of late, the leadership of the South-West arm of the PDP has been embroiled in crisis with Fayose and Makinde at the centre of the ruckus.
Makinde, a first term governor, is the only PDP governor in the South-West zone while the other five states in the region are ruled by the governors of the All Progressives Congress.
The leadership tussle between Makinde and Fayose has since generated verbal confrontations.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that Fayose threatened to “work against” Makinde in the 2023 elections if the Oyo governor continues to “disrespect” him.
However, in the statement titled, ‘NWC Moves to Ensure Reconciliation, Smooth South West Zonal Congress’, Ologbondiyan said PDP leadership and the committee led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki will reconcile the two party chieftains.
The statement read, “The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party after an extensive meeting has scaled up processes for reconciliation and as it affects South West Zonal Congress of the party.
“The NWC resolved as follows:
“That beyond the legal conundrum in our party’s formation in the zone, the PDP must win the South West.
“Consequent upon this, the NWC further resolved that a meeting comprising of the National Chairman, the Deputy National Chairman, the National Secretary, the Senator Bukola Saraki-led Reconciliation and Strategic Committee, Governor Seyi Makinde and former Governor Ayo Fayose, be held immediately for urgent resolution of all issues concerning the South West.
“The NWC will meet on the outcome of this reconciliation meeting within the next 24 hours.”
PDP Asks DSS To Probe Pantami, Seeks Minister’s Sack
The Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday called on the Department of State Service to immediately invite the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, for questioning over his alleged affiliations with the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
The Party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in Abuja, also demanded that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), should immediately sack the minister, given the sensitivity of the issue at stake.
The party said its position was predicated on the heightening concerns in the public space and in the international arena of possible compromises by the communication minister.
It noted that Pantami had access to sensitive government documents and information, in addition to data of all individuals including high profile personalities in the public and private sectors as well as the traditional and faith-based circles.
The statement partly read, “The PDP is particularly worried about allegations in the public suggesting that the minister compromised the NIN registration exercise by giving room for the registration of aliens and invaders from other countries as our citizens.
“The party tasks the DSS to investigate the allegation which has created apprehension, particularly given the rise in banditry and other terrorist activities in our country.
“The PDP urges Nigerians to remain at alert and very sensitive to their environment, while not hesitating in providing useful information to our security agencies in the interest of our nation”
Lagos AAC Supports Judiciary Workers’ Nationwide Strike Actions
As Judiciary workers march out all over the country to protest Government’s delay in granting the financial autonomy of the judicial arm away from the Executive, Lagos AAC salutes the resilience of JUSUN so far.
For us, the Judiciary workers strike action is a great leap for democracy. The executive arm, by it’s control of the financial life of the Judiciary, demolishes the concept of democracy thereby putting the civil space, democracy and justice on trial.
Our party is being in court over many Social injustices and we practically understand how underrepresented, underfunded, and compromised the Judiciary is. We hereby call on all good people of conscience, our comrades, and sympathizers to support JUSUN in the strike Actions especially the nationwide Protests against erring state governments.
We hold that justice is a consequential virtue to get peace and true development!
