The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev Alfred Adewale Martins, has faulted the freezing of accounts of #EndSARS promoters.

The Archbishop disclosed this in a statement by its Director of Social Communications, Rev. Fr. Anthony Godonu.

The clergyman advised the Nigerian Government to be guided in handling prominent figures in the #EndSARS protests.

The statement reads, “We have been reading with great concern, reports of arrest, seizure of international passports and the freezing of bank accounts of some of the prominent figures in the #EndSARS protest.

“Everyone was delighted to hear the President say that the voices of the youth had been heard loud and clear. That left everyone with the impression that the government had seen the point in their protest and had taken a cue on how to meet their concerns. It came as a surprise to hear that the people who had helped the government to the new awakening are now being punished for the service they offered.

“Apart from being an abridgment of the rights of these youths to organize peaceful protests, a right that government officials have affirmed over and over since this whole matter started; it also amounts to a betrayal of their trust that the government will actually listen to them. Financial contributions to support a cause, that even government officials recognize as being a noble one, should certainly not be a crime.”

The Archbishop further admonished the Nigerian Government to be careful in the way it handles the matter so that wounds that are gradually being healed would not be reopened and the hope that trust would gradually be restored may not be lost again.

He assured Nigerians of continued prayers for the nation and enjoined all citizens to be law-abiding and peaceful while going about their daily activities.

Pope Francis Presses Young Catholics For A New Economy

Pope Francis urged young Catholic entrepreneurs Saturday to develop a new, more just economic model that could save a mistreated planet while helping the poor and the excluded.

Francis spoke via a video message beamed to a virtual meeting of young business leaders and urged them to make major changes to global economic relationships.

“You recognize the urgent need for a different economic narrative,” the pontiff said in comments translated into English.

“The present world system is certainly unsustainable from a number of points of view and is harming our sister earth, so gravely maltreated and despoiled, together with the poor and the excluded in our midst,” the pope remarked.

He pointed out that the coronavirus epidemic had caused people to think about the situation the world found itself in.

“Once the present health crisis has passed, the worst reaction would be to fall even more deeply into feverish consumerism,” Francis added.

The Argentinian-born pope has regularly taken capitalism to task, accusing it of indifference to social inequality and a party to the depletion of the planet’s resources.

He pressed the young business leaders and academics from 115 countries to “give birth to an economic culture” that inspired trust and created resources “that will enlighten minds, warm hearts” and give “all young people, with no one excluded — a vision of the future.”

The Vatican has launched an investigation into how Pope Francis’s Instagram account “liked” a raunchy photograph of a Brazilian bikini model with her bottom on display, an official said Friday.

Natalia Garibotto, 27, posed in a white cropped top, suspenders and the smallest of tartan skirts for a naughty school girl picture that was given the thumbs up by the official Franciscus account last week.

“I’m going to heaven,” the blonde model tweeted after an eagle-eyed fan snapped a screenshot of the “like”.

It was removed a day later by the Vatican’s social media team, which tweets or likes on the pontiff’s behalf.

“The issue is currently being investigated in close contact with Instagram,” a Vatican official told AFP, after speculation someone in the social media team could accidentally have liked the picture while logged in as Francis.

Francis has 7.4 million Instagram followers, but does not follow any other profiles and does not appear to have “liked” anything else.

“Also, to the governor of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Cross rivers State, Ben Ayade, and the Governor of Abia State. If they decamp to APC, They will lose their political grounds completely.
