Manchester United have confirmed new signing Edinson Cavani will not be able to make his debut against Newcastle United on Saturday because of coronavirus quarantine rules.

United have been informed Cavani, who moved to Old Trafford on a free transfer on deadline day, will have to stay in isolation until Sunday – a day after the trip the St James’ Park.

“Cavani is being forced to self-isolate due to COVID-19 guidelines following his arrival into the country from France which means he is unable to make his debut at St James’ Park,” a club statement said.

“The Uruguay international will be free to play against his former club Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League if deemed fit and ready for action.

United play PSG on Oct. 20 in their first game of the Champions League group stage.

Cavani travelled to Manchester from Paris on Oct. 4 and according to the United Kingdom’s government rules has to spent 14 days in isolation.

He is training at home but has not played a competitive game since his last appearance for PSG on March 11.

He has not been part of a high-performance bubble since becoming a free agent and is therefore not exempt from the UK’s quarantine rules.

Cavani, who has signed a two-year deal, had revealed he tested positive for coronavirus during the summer after a holiday in Ibiza.

United will also be without Anthony Martial who is suspended after being sent off in the side’s 6-1 loss to Tottenham. (ESPN)

James Rodriguez is now in contention to make Everton’s trip to Southampton, claims Carlo Ancelotti, with fitness concerns easing around the Colombian playmaker.

The Toffees boss revealed on Thursday that his South American star was nursing a knock picked up in an eventful Merseyside derby date with Liverpool.

Ancelotti told evertontv: “Unfortunately, James had a problem during the game [against Liverpool].

“He had a mistimed tackle with Virgil van Dijk at the beginning of the game and I think he will not be available for the game against Southampton.”

That update was considered to represent quite a blow to Everton’s ambition.

Ancelotti’s side have burst out of the blocks in 2020-21, going unbeaten through their opening five Premier League fixtures.

James, fresh from being snapped up from La Liga giants Real Madrid over the summer, has quickly become an influential figure at Goodison Park.

His creativity and eye for goal have endeared him to the Everton natives, with the 29-year-old’s presence helping the Toffees to tick.

Being without him for a trip to St Mary’s Stadium would have forced Ancelotti into shuffling his pack.

It may, however, be that James comes into contention after all after making a return to training on Friday.

Ancelotti told reporters when asked for a fitness update: “He is not definitely out. Fortunately his recovery was really good and he trained today, just a partial training session.

“I hope he is going to train tomorrow and we will see if he is condition to play on Sunday. He is really better now and we are confident that maybe he can play. He was not able to train until today. I hope tomorrow is going to be better.

“Today’s was quite good, the training, but he had only partial training.”

Everton will definitely be without club captain Seamus Coleman for their trip to the south coast, but having James back would offer their pre-match preparations a timely boost.

He has slotted seamlessly into the fold on Merseyside and become a key part of Ancelotti’s plans.

James has three goals and four assists to his name through six appearances in all competitions, with the former Madrid star proving to be the perfect foil for 10-goal top scorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Anambra FA Crisis: Agu Awka Begs Club Owners To Join In Fighting Ifeanyi Ubah.

AIF Media has just gathered that Agu Awka is right now bribing club owners with the sum of 500,000 naira each to pen their signatories in a prepared letter to be sent to the Senate Committee on Sports.

According to the source, Club Owners are been wooed to join the fight as all other strategies they used to stop Senator Dr Ikemba Ifeanyi Ubah has failed.

With the white paper issued by the Ministry of Sports directing NFF to recognise Ifeanyi Ubah as the duly elected chairman of Anambra FA, Agu Awka is right now trying to drag the Club Owners in the state into the same shame they dragged NFF into.

They brought in NFF to fight Ifeanyi Ubah and failed. They are now moving to drag the senate committee on sports to their drowning battle against the anointed.

They can’t stop the man whose time has come. The slogan is; Fight Ifeanyi Ubah and end up in SHAME. The Club Owners should ask Emeka Okeke why he dumped Agu Awka in this matter and raw away.

Allow Agu Awka to drown alone as they continue to fight a battle that has been won. In the instant case, Agu Awka is daring the Ministry of Sport and wants to use Club Owners to fight the Minister, Hon Sunday Dare.

An outgoing administration which ordinarily should be preparing grounds for a hitch free transition of power is busy creating crisis everywhere – sacking ndi Igwe, imposing caretakers everywhere, fighting stakeholders and sowing seed of crisis in almost every organization.

The Club Owners should be wise. Fight Ifeanyi Ubah and end up in shame is real.
