“Besides the Bauchi LGA, there is no place that gave me many votes like Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro and in the past; these same votes were given to me at the time I contested under the ANPP; the votes I got then were 20 times more than those of Dogara.
“Now, that I contested the governorship, the votes I got were also more than his votes as member and because of that, whatever I will do to you, I won’t do it because of Dogara, I’ll do it because of God and because of myself.
“Those lies he said about me; he said that we don’t give allocations to the LGAs, but have the LGAs been like this before? Have you not been seeing what we are doing there?
“Was it not Dogara that brought the road project from his pocket from Bogoro-Dull-Burga at N17bn and it has not been completed and it is just 45 kilometres.
“He is just talking because if you see a dog running, it is either it is running to get something or something is chasing it. We pity him because he has become an epidemic in politics, but we, in our capacity as brothers, especially we the elders, he has become a disgrace. We only depend on God, you (Dogara) are nobody, imagine now that God made me your Governor, should I now disrespect you?”
The Governor said he could not fight with Dogara because “he (Dogara) is too small); those who are even more than him tried but they failed.
APC Flag-Off Governorship Campaign In Edo
The All Progressives Congress on Saturday flagged off its campaign ahead of the Governorship election in Edo state on September 19.
The event took place at the University of Benin’s Sports Complex, Benin-city.
Dignitaries who were present include the Yobe State Governor and Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee, Mr. Mai Mala-Buni, Governors of Kano, Imo, Kaduna, Osun, and former Chairman of the party, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, as well as some Ministers.
Before the campaign flag-off, the APC Governorship Candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and his guests paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II to seek his blessings.
On Friday, President Muhammadu Buhari had endorsed Ize-Iyamu who is set to square off against incumbent and PDP candidate, Godwin Obaseki in the polls.
At the flag-off, Kano state governor and chairman of APC national campaign, Abdullahi Ganduje, said the party is confident of victory and will perform better than the current administration in the state.
The APC flag-off event in Edo took place at the University of Benin’s Sports Complex on August 8, 2020.
The APC’s flag-off comes on the heels of dramatic events in the state’s House of Assembly.
On Thursday, some men damaged the roof and mace of the state’s House of Assembly as police sealed the building.
“We are here to win and not to fight,” Mr. Mala-Buni, the APC chief, said at the flag-off. “But we must ensure that every vote counts.”
“We have to conclude that this election will be won by APC,” Kano State Governor, Ganduje said, brushing the air with the party’s broom, the sun on his face.
In his flag-off speech, Ize-Iyamu sounded confident of victory.
“With the people you have seen with me today, will you say we are in the opposition?” he said. “Can anybody say that we have been intimidated?”
He went on to promise not just to win the election, but sweep all 18 local governments in the state.
“Never again should we have a Governor who will describe Edo youths as miscreants,” an energetic Oshiomhole said. “It is the business of Governors and of governments to empower the poor and elevate them to a position of dignity.”
Edo Deputy Governor Alleges Assassination Plot
The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has made allegations of a plot to assassinate high-profile personalities in the state.
Mr. Shaibu said this on Saturday during a press briefing in Benin-city.
“We have intelligence that some individuals are in Edo state and their assignment is to come and assassinate some known individuals in the state.
“So I am hereby bringing to the notice of the general public that these people are in town and we’ve communicated to the security agencies about their activities and why they are in town.”
Shaibu called on President Muhammadu Buhari to charge security agencies to “do their work because Edo will not be a theatre of war if these things are dealt with.”
“For us, we will continue to appeal to our people not to look for trouble,” the Deputy-Governor continued, ” not to disturb any program. We are law-abiding. We have a duty to protect lives and properties. That we will continue to do.”
